LEFFER offers a full range of casings, casing joints, bottom casings, and accessories designed to meet the rigorous demands of fully cased pile boring for large diameter and deep foundations in the most difficult soil conditions including hard rock. Double walled and HD casings have been engineered specifically to handle the high torque and heavy push down forces exerted by hydraulic casing oscillators and rotator boring equipment, as well as the significant lifting forces encountered in removing large strings after concreting.
Like all LEFFER machinery and tooling, LEFFER casings are manufactured from high quality steel, seamlessly contoured and ring forged, machined to precision tolerances, and fabricated utilizing the most advanced welding processes. They have been meticulously engineered to augment the productivity and efficiency of the LEFFER RDM Series of Hydraulic Casing Rotators and VRM Series of Hydraulic Casing Oscillators. Proven in decades of deep foundation drilling and hundreds of projects, LEFFER casings reliably fit and bolt together, deliver faster boring, and consistently outlast other casings in the most difficult of soil conditions.

Double walled casing (BR)
LEFFER double walled casings are the ideal choice for fully cased pile construction using the hydraulic rotary or oscillator boring methods. They have been designed and manufactured with the strength required for fully cased boring of large diameter (up to 2m), deep (up to 100m/300ft) piling shafts in the most difficult of soil conditions including rocks, boulders, and previous foundations.Heavy duty in design, the casings incorporate precisely fitted and rugged casing joints that deliver optimal power transmission and rapid mounting/bolting. They have been engineered to augment the productivity and efficiency of the VRM Series of Hydraulic Casing Oscillators and LEFFER full 360 turning LEFFER RDM Series of Hydraulic Casing Rotators.
LEFFER Double walled casings are available in standard diameters from 540/478mm up to 2000/1910mm. They are available in working lengths of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 meters for the full range of casing diameters. Casing joints are watertight and can be connected to either single or double walled casings. The casings feature an outer wall thickness of 10-18mm and an inner wall thickness of 8-12mm that depend on the casing size. For the ultimate in strength and rigidity, the casings incorporate a number of longitudinal reinforcing bars between the inner and outer wall. Smaller casings have 16-18 reinforcing bars, while the larger casings have up to 62. For the bulk of casing sizes, the combined (overall) thickness of the inner wall, gap/reinforcing bar, and outer wall is 40mm.
HD Double walled casing (BR HD)
LEFFER HD double walled casings are the ideal choice for fully cased pile construction using the hydraulic rotary or oscillator boring methods. They have been designed and manufactured with the strength required for fully cased boring of large diameter (up to 3200mm), deep (up to 100m/300ft) piling shafts in the most difficult of soil conditions including rocks, boulders, and previous foundations. Heavy Duty in design, the casings incorporate LEFFER patented HD Connecting Bolts as well as precisely fitted and rugged casing joints that deliver optimal power transmission and rapid mounting/bolting. They have been engineered to augment the efficiency and productivity of the LEFFER VRM Series of Hydraulic Casing Oscillators and LEFFER full 360 turning RDM Series of Hydraulic Casing Rotators.
LEFFER HD Double walled casings are available in standard diameters from 600/520mm up to 3200/3040mm. They are available in working lengths of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 meters for the full range of diameters. Casing joints are watertight and can be connected to either single or double walled casings. The casings feature an outer wall thickness of 15-25mm and an inner wall thickness of 10-25mm that depend on the casing size. For the ultimate in strength and rigidity, the casings incorporate a number of longitudinal reinforcing bars between the inner and outer wall. Smaller casings have 18-30 reinforcing bars, while the larger casings have 60-80. Combined (overall) thickness of the inner wall, gap/reinforcing bar, and outer wall varies from 40mm for the smaller casings up to 80mm for the largest diameters.
HD Single walled casing (BR HD)
Our heavy-duty casing joints are fabricated entirely from high-strength tempered steel. The threaded and conical rings are interchangeable and can be replaced when worn. High circumferential pulling and bending forces are transmitted gap-free via the conical surfaces of the bolting system. Because of the gap-free joints, wear and tear on the connecting elements is extremely low. The casing joint is watertight and can be used for both single-walled and double-walled casing.
Bottom Casings/Casings with Cutting Teeth – Double Walled
LEFFER Double walled bottom casings are available in standard diameters from 540/478mm up to 2000/1910mm and are available for every standard LEFFER double walled casing diameter. They are available in working lengths of 4, 5, or 6 meters (from top joint centerline to cutting teeth edge) as well. There are are a broad selection of cutting shoe options available for the bottom casings, and cutting shoes can be supplied with a removable, half-casing connection or as a weld-on type. The specifications and construction of the bottom casings match the standard LEFFER double walled casings with the exception of available lengths and cutting teeth. The Bottom Casings feature an outer wall thickness of 10-18mm and an inner wall thickness of 8-12mm that depend on the casing size. For the ultimate in strength and rigidity, the casings incorporate a number of longitudinal reinforcing bars between the inner and outer wall. Smaller casings have 16-18 reinforcing bars, while the larger casings have up to 62. All LEFFER Casing Joints are precisely machined from seamless, ring forged alloy steel, precisely machined, and heat treated. No other casing joints are as precise, easily fitted and connected, strong, and durable as LEFFER Casing Joints.
LEFFER Casing Joints are available for standard casing sizes from 540/478mm in diameter up to 2000/1910mm. They are available in Conical Ring Types (K61, K64, K88, K118, K150 and K200), Threaded Ring Types (G61, G64, G88, G118, G150, G200), and Conical Bolt Types (29S, 38S, and 43S). Casing joints are 340/380mm tall, with the exception of casing joints or casings over 1500mm in diameter. LEFFER Casing Joints incorporate a 10-12mm sealing joint to form a reliable, watertight seal -depending on the casing size, they are secured by 3-6 locating keys.
LEFFER Heavy-Duty (HD) casing joints utilize LEFFER Patented HD Connecting Bolts and are fabricated entirely from high-strength tempered steel. The conical rings are threaded and interchangeable, thus can be replaced when worn. The high applied circumferential pulling and bending forces that result from hydraulic rotary/oscillator boring of pilings are transmitted via the conical surfaces of the HD bolting system. Because of the casing joint design is gap free and incorporates a seal, wear and tear is minimized, and the resulting joint is watertight.
LEFFER provides matching casing funnels to complement their broad assortment of double walled casings, casing joints, and bottom casings. The casing funnel serves as protection for the casing joint and speeds/simplifies the insertion of the drilling tools into the bored shaft. LEFFER Casing Funnels are available in standard diameters from 540/478mm up to 2000/1910mm, and are available for every standard LEFFER double walled casing size. Casing funnels are 500mm tall and have and outer diameter that is 1.4x the casing diameter for smaller sizes down to 1.1x the casing diameter for larger sizes to enable simplified piling bore access.
Casing Drive Adapter – Powered and Unpowered
LEFFER offers casing drive adapters to allow moving rotary drill rigs to set and remove casing. The Casing Drive Adapters are available for all standard LEFFER Double walled casing diameters from 540/478mm up to 2000/1910mm. They feature 2-5 quick locking bolts, depending on the casing size, and lock/unlock either manually (with taglines) or electrical actuation (via remote radio control) for connection to major rotary drill rigs while moving.
Casing Lifting Device
LEFFER provides a matching Casing Lifting Device in order to enable rapid assembly or disassembly of casing to or from the string, while preventing damage to the conical rings of the casing joints. The device features quick release attachments and a cross bar that ensures only vertical lifting forces are applied to the casing. With 100KN Capacity, even the heaviest LEFFER Casing Lifting Devices are available for standard casing diameters from 540/478mm up to 2000/1910mm, and are available for every standard LEFFER double walled casing size. Use of a LEFFER Casing Lifting Device can reduce the cost, lost time, and lost productivity associated with damaging a casing or casing joint during assembly or disassembly.
Casing Cutting Shoes
LEFFER bottom casings offer a selection of cutting shoe types to accommodate the widest range of soil conditions to be encountered in hydraulic rotary/oscillator/rotator boring of fully cased piling shafts. Standard removable or weld-on cutting shoes are available for standard LEFFER Casing diameters up to 2000/1910mm in diameter. HD cutting shoes are available in removable or weld-on designs for LEFFER HD Casing diameters from 1500/1400mm up to 3350/3190mm. LEFFER Casing Cutting shoes are available to address the widest range of preferences for casing mounting, teeth types, exchangeable teeth types. Type 1 Cutting Shoes include flame cut teeth. Cutting shoes with exchangeable teeth feature a quick change system consisting of a tooth holder dowel pin and choice of three different tooth types: Type 4 : For Detritus-type soils, can be reconditioned after wear and tear by hard facing, Type 5 For Cohesive soils and easily loosened rock, and Type 6 For Hard Rock, secant pile walls.

HD Tremie Pipe
The LEFFER heavy-duty tremie pipe system was specifically developed to ensure a safe concreting process with large pile diameters at high depths. The tremie pipe joints are precision-engineered and fabricated using CNC machines to guarantee a watertight connection. Joints are capable of transferring large forces, which minimizes the risk of the pipe snapping. The heavy-duty tremie pipe system is suitable for use in air lifting applications.

Hydraulic Spherical Grab (HKLG CD)
The hydraulic spherical grab is used on jobs where drilling has to be carried out free of vibrations or where partially cased or uncased drilled shafts are to be produced. The large dead weight in conjunction with the high closing force ensures maximum efficiency. The hydraulic turning device enables the grab to be turned ± 100 degrees to ensure calibration of the borehole.
To recognize and correct any deviation of the vertical excavation direction, all hydraulic spherical grabs are equipped with a two-axis inclination sensor. The inclination sensor values are monitored inside the operator’s cabin. On uncased drilled shafts, the grab type HLKG CD’s jaw dimensions can be adapted to the respective shaft diameter. Special Hammer Grab
LEFFER’s robust free-fall grabs with high closing force are ideally suited for boring in detritus soils and for water logged pile foundations. The pulleys are equipped with oil-filled, maintenance-free lifetime bearings.
The LEFFER hammer grab can be utilized in the recommended double rope operation, as well as in single rope operations for which a grab cover with latches and simple chandelier is necessary. (Note form to download)
During the double rope operation, the first rope is attached to the locking mechanism and the second is attached to the chain suspension tackle of the hammer grab unit. When lowering the hammer grab into the casing hole, the first rope is lifted and thus the grab jaws are closed. At the required location, the second rope is lifted and the grab jaws are opened by means of the heavy spring. The brakes of both cable dredger winches are opened, the hammer grab drops with open grab jaws and penetrates deep into the strata.
In order to obtain maximum filing capacity of the grab jaws, the hammer grab can be lifted several times using the second rope in order to penetrate deeper into the hard strata with opened grab jaws. This creates a chisel effect before being withdrawn with closed jaws by means of the first rope.
In the single rope operation the grab is suspended at the closing mechanism and is driven into the casing with opened grab jaws. It drops freely at the required location and into the casing bottom with the jaws open. When hitting the casing bottom, the latches in the grab cover are falling to the outside and the jaws are closed when pulling the rope attached to the closing mechanism. After withdrawl from the casing, the grab is guided into the chandlier and slowly lowered. The catch hooks grip on the hammer grab neck below the retaining ring and the grab jaws strike open due to the heavy spring force, which enables even adhesive bore medium to loosen quickly. In order to release the grab from the chandelier, it is pulled up until the chandelier is lifted slightly and then is lowered with the jaws open.
Both the double rope and single rope operation are quick, reliable and highly economical.
LEFFER chisels are used to drive casing through rock. For different rock conditions we offer two types of chisels:
- Type A: Cross chisels with additional tangential cutting edges for rock with compression strength of less than 1800 kg/cm2 (25,500 psi).
- Type B: Round chisels with cross inside for rock with compression strength of more than 1800 kg/cm2 (25,500 psi). The teeth are made of high manganese steel.
